about

🎓
If you're interested in joining the lab and enrolling in the USU school psychology program, please also take a look at my prospective students page.

My name is Erik Reinbergs and I’m (newly!) an assistant professor and licensed psychologist in the Department of Psychology within the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services and the Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence. I originally trained as a school psychologist and am housed in the department's school psychology program. You can see my USU faculty page here.

I research suicide and self-harm, including prevention, assessment, treatment/intervention, and postvention—particularly among youth and young adults. You can see a list of research articles I've published on my google scholar profile. If you don't have access to any of my articles, I will happily email you a (free) copy. You can also view my CV below if you'd like to see more about my background.

I use a variety of quantitative methods in my work, from regression to structural equation modeling, complex survey sample analysis to psychometrics. I primarily work in Stata, although also have some experience with R. I also having training in single-case research designs.

Clinically, I adhere to a behavioral orientation. I'm trained in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and other behavioral interventions like ACT, behavioral parent training (BPT), and positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) with schools. I enjoy thinking about how we can translate evidence-based clinical interventions to settings like schools, primary care, and community organizations. I also have experience with traditional school psychology services including conducting psychological evaluations for special education purposes and providing related services.

Before coming to USU, I was an assistant professor in the school psychology specialist degree program and the combined clinical/school psychology PsyD program at the University of Houston Clear Lake. At UHCL, I thought graduate courses, ran a small research lab, and provided supervision at the campus psychology training clinic.

Prior to UCHL, I completed my internship and postdoc within Cypress-Fairbanks ISD—a very large public school district outside of Houston. I received my PhD in school psychology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

If you'd like to collaborate, I'd love to hear from you. You can find me on Mastodon or send me an email at erik.reinbergs[at]usu[dot]edu. I plan on accepting a PhD student for fall 2025. Consider applying or sending promising applicants my way.
